Tracy Kidder, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, is one of the masters of non-fiction. This powerful book follows Paul Farmer, a renowned infectious-disease specialist, and shows how one person can make a difference in bringing modern medicine and fighting disease where it is most needed. The book takes us to Haiti and shows how Farmer works endlessly to change mindsets and methods to overcome situations that seemed insurmountable by setting up a small public charity, Partners in Health and enlisting the help of the UN in his mission.

The book is non fiction, Kidder's study of Doctor Paul Farmer, an infectious disease specialist, anthropologist and all round good egg, who is the co founder of a global not for profit called Partners in Heath, who provide free comprehensive healthcare for those living in poverty. The book traverses Haiti, Peru, Cuba, and Russia, and the work of PIH in these countries in a totally accessible, compelling way. As Farmer's message is "The only real nation is humanity", it seems a perfect choice for a global read.
